Organ Donation

Life is a very precious gift that most of us feel is well worth celebrating. As it relates to Organ Donation there are generally two potential scenarios.

There is Organ Donation where life continues, as in the donation of a kidney, blood , bone marrow or a liver section. In these situations we are the guide and decision maker. There are certainly considerations which may impact on life in these particular circumstances. Medical coverage, insurances and potential resulting, personal health impacts all come into play. These are circumstances that you will or will not consider when there is a situation that might demand it.

Organ Donation when life is imminently near that last beat is yet another consideration. As parents of a minor there are parental considerations and a need for pro activity as might occur in a sudden 'family' tragedy. As an adult it is beneficial to have a clear written directive of your wishes as well as the mechanisms to assure that any final wishes may or may not be fulfilled as you determine, in advance, and in a timely manner!

A third possibility is the desire to donate ones' body to science. That wish takes some investigation. Just because you want it to happen doesn't mean it can or will happen.
